I know that bossman was thinking for the last few weeks the rapidfire tournament and the Tyranids versus everything game. A silly Christmas themed Game might be fun too, but that might be too many big games. A short narrative campaign like the rogue Inquisitor might be fun.

I believe the intention was for the Tyranids versus everyone game to be next term's apocalypse event. Depending on Adam's intentions for the rapid-fire tournament it is possible some christmas sillyness might be worked into it. Also for next term I'm thinking about trying to organise a map-based 40k campaign using a 40k-ised version of the BFG vagaries of war campaign rules (basically you would have a master army list that you would divide up between your territories and battles would be fought between whatever forces you had in the territory and whatever forces your opponent has moved in from a neighbouring territory).

Yes, I was supposed to make a thread on this, but I've been too busy. Sorry.
Ideas go like this:
- Rapid Fire tournament: 4-5 short and humorous games at a 500 or 750 point level, playable within a (possibly extended) meeting. Bizarre, partially randomly-generated missions - after a suggestion from Alan, I've decided that instead of keeping the missions entirely secret, I'll send out a rules pack beforehand, but certain things about each mission will be decided by dice rolls. Some of the options will be contradictory, ensuring that trying to craft a cutting-edge, all-situations army list of doom will be a futile effort (this tournament is most certainly not a contest of list-writing ;D). Armies will be similar in restrictions to Combat Patrol; currently my idea is to allow one choice that breaks the restrictions, provided it costs no more than 150 points - so a cheap Carnifex, a Predator, a Defiler or Dreadnought, a naked Leman Russ, a reasonably well-equipped HQ, etc, but no Terminators, Land Raiders, Punishers, 200 point Hive Tyrants, or souped-up special characters.
- Tyranid Game: Swarmy fun times. Beleaguered Imperial Guard (with super-heavy support) holed up in slowly-decaying buildings, beset by hordes of Tyranids, with the Space Marines coming to the rescue in turn two or three. We're looking at about 4000 of Guard + 3000 of Marines + 2000 of giant stuff* vs. 8000 or so of Tyranids, provided we can get enough players to shove all the models around and lay down some simplifications to speed the game up (no-scatter deep strike within 12" of Tyrants or Lictors, deathspitters cause D6-2 hits instead of deviating, squads combining fire, that sort of thing). The objective might be for the Imperium to hold at least two buildings by the end of turn four, or something like that. We can extend the meeting time by 2-3 hours, but even with that it'll take some careful planning to get the game moving and running smoothly, so this one'll be next term no doubt, as a major event.
*Alan assures me he's buying a Chaos Warhound soon. Let's see how long that lasts when six Carnifexes deepstrike in behind it. Note to self: Build that damn Hierodule!
- Christmas game: Status unknown, although if one happens it'll involve Inquisitor Santus trying to escape the hordes of Chaos in his land raider, throwing 'presents' (full of Genestealers) at them while also visiting the IG holed up in buildings to dispense gifts. Maybe the tourney can be in Week 7 and this in Week 8, as it sounds fun... Wouldn't take long either - perhaps 1750 points of Chaos vs. 1200 of Guard + Land Raider Crusader which has to not-die (it'd have extra rules letting it ignore shaken, stunned and immobilised results, that should keep the game going) + merry-Christmas-have-some-Tyranids.

I think maybe go for objectives, of a random Christmas nature, say Roast Dinner giving your troops +1 strength but -1 initative, and crackers giving the squad occuppying the objective -1 leadership for the bad joke, but count as having grenades in all forms for the crackers themselves. the Inquisitor might be random, rolling a dice to see if the unit has been naughty or nice, with naughty being genestealers, nice being Christmas puddings.
Certainly though it sounds a good term and a good one to come. For the map campaign do you want to go for the Planetary Empires? Or else I could bring in a big pad if you wanted to do a traditional map.
Next term sounds fun, and if you wanted to do longer I could ask at Lincoln if you wanted to rent out a room there all day.

If there is a room similar to the Mure room at Lincoln that is wheelchair accessible and doesn't cost an exorbitant amount to book the Society would probably be interested in looking at it as a regular meeting place. I think Adam or I has mentioned it at one of the meetings before but we are currently on the look out for such a room as there is a person who is confined to a wheelchair that would like to come to the Society, but the Mure room is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
Regarding the map campaign I have thought about Planetary Empires, but I might just go with a more traditional paper map, it allows me to be a bit more creative, plus I quite enjoy map making. That and of course it is substantially cheaper!

Something else we could possibly do - check this out: Relics and Retributions, a four-player 40K campaign written by yours truly some time ago and, as it turned out, never actually played. There's some fun-sounding ideas in there.
