Here's some rules - doubling as a sneak preview of the DoS creation system - for the only mech-like model I currently own, Ghallen. Yes, it's a sad state of being. That's what you get for being skint, I guess.
[Chassis = 120 cogs]
[Characteristic upgrades = 19; 140 cogs]
Locomotion: Retrograde [20]
Reactor: Daemonheart [50]
Upgrades:
Counter-impulse system [25]
Levellers [10]
Regenamer [50]
Sensor head [20]
[Body = 435 cogs]
Weapons:
Shoulders - Heavy Slug Repeaters [75]
Body - Helltail [41]
Right Arm - Plasmic Devastator [138]
Left Arm - Satalon [77]
CCW: +6 Pr, +1 As, 2D6 Strength
[Weapons = 331 cogs]
[Total = 766 cogs]
For a heavy, he's a little undergunned; he could easily fit another pair of shoulder weapons and a gun mounted on his CCW. That's not really his point though. Ghallen's turned out to have a lot of rare upgrades - daemonhearts, regenamer and counter impulse systems are one-per-team, and for a reason. Despite this, he's cheap. I had to restrain the impulse to shave a bunch of things off and make him 666 points...
With the CIS, Ghallen can move up the table at some speed while still firing, crossing terrain easily due to the levellers (an upgrade I've added to represent his unusually flexible, dextrous feet - in the pic thread, you can see he's standing on a chunk of mech with his toes wrapped round it). When he makes close combat, he's a slugger. With his weapon bonuses, an Assault of 6 and a ridiculously high Power mean that he has a fair chance of landing at least one hit, which itself has a fair chance of tearing something vital off.
What with his gigaweapon this makes Ghallen a good objective grabber; he can stomp his way to the target point, shoot holes in enemies supported by his team-mates, and then go and beat faces in with his claw. His tail-mounted weapon, represented by a body weapon, is for up-close fighting and can spray out a fair amount of damage due to being a flamer. Ghallen can also swallow some firepower in return; Armour 9 and Hits 140 will let him survive a fair bit of enemy fire, but his regenamer makes him a tough SOB, as he can regrow damage!
He doesn't have any fancy abilities and his Reflexes is low for a mobile fighter (as opposed to a more fire-support-orientated one), but that helps keep him cheap. The limit on characteristic upgrades stopped me buying him Re 5, and I wouldn't have said no to Ranged 7 either, but that's what you get for buying too much other stuff.
...Oh, and yes, Hits 140. That's not a typo. Stuff does insane amounts of damage in this game...
